THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT (SWING TIME, 1936)

The song The Way You Look Tonight has been used many times in other movies but it was in the film Swing Time where it was first heard. The great Fred Astaire was the voice behind the song. Swing Time, one of the most celebrated team-up of Mr. Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Timeless.

THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT
sung by: Fred Astaire

Someday when I’m awfully low
When the world is cold
I will feel a glow
Just thinking of you
And the way you look tonight

Oh, but you’re lovely
With your smile so warm
And your cheeks so soft
There is nothing for me
But to love you
Just the way you look tonight

With each word
Your tenderness grows
Tearing my fear apart
And that laugh
That wrinkles your nose
Touches my foolish heart

Lovely, never ever change
Keep that breathless charm
Won’t you please arrange it
‘Cause I love you
Just the way you look tonight

Mmm...
Just the way you look tonight

WE MAY NEVER LOVE LIKE THIS AGAIN (THE TOWERING INFERNO, 1974)

One of Hollywood's favorite subject for a movie are disaster films. In 1974, 20th Century Fox came up with one about a doomed skycraper on the verge to collapse due to faulty wiring. It had a star-studded cast starring Hollywood giants, Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, Faye Dunaway, William Holden and Fred Astaire among others and came on strong at the box office. Maureen McGovern sung this beautiful ballad as the theme for The Towering Inferno.

WE MAY NEVER LOVE LIKE THIS AGAIN
sung by: Maureen McGovern

We may never love like this again
Don’t stop the flow, we can’t let go

We may never love like this again
And touch the sky, now we may try

So while we here let’s give up all
We listed the dreams inside us and set them free
Oh, while we here let’s leave a mark
There’s a candle in the dark
It’s here to guide us

We may never love like this again
But through the days, beyond the highs
I’ll see you reaching out to hold me
I don’t know just where or when
Still I’m sure
We’ll love again, we’ll love again
We’ll love again…
(we may never love like this again)

SOMEONE WHO BELIEVES IN YOU (DATE WITH AN ANGEL, 1987)

This lesser-known song then by Russell Hitchcock of the famed duo Air Supply at that time was now better known than the movie itself. Date With An Angel isn't as memorable as the naughty comedy Zapped! (1982) but it still provides romantic chuckles. Phoebe Cates is hilarious, Emmanuelle Beart as the titular character is charming and Michael E. Knight is, well, geeky. The movie remains a guilty pleasure for those who grew up during the era of bad hair days. The theme was heard as an instrumental during one of the scenes and can be heard fully during the end credits.

SOMEONE WHO BELIEVES IN YOU
sung by: Russell Hitchcock

When there’s a dark storm in your horizon
And you think you can’t get through it
Just put your hand in my hand
And I’ll show you how to do it

When the future looks uncertain
You can count on me to be there
And when your heart and soul are hurtin’
Just look and you’ll see me there

Just follow where I lead
I’ll give you what you need
A love that’s always true
And someone who believes in you

So when you’re searching for that rainbow
I will help you find it
And when a mountain stands before you
I will help you climb it

Just follow where I lead
I’ll give you what you need
A love that’s always true
And someone who believes in you

It’s time to come alive
Your moment has arrived
I’ll bring out the best in you

We can have it all
No, we will never fall
Looking down from our celestial view

Just follow where I lead
I’ll give you what you need
And I’ll tell you something else
You’ll start believing in yourself
It’s an easy thing to do
When you have someone who believes in you

Someone who believes
Someone who believes
I’m someone who believes
And you’ve got someone who believes in you

THE ROSE (THE ROSE, 1979)

The Divine Miss M gave an electrifying performance and an Oscar-nominated role as a troubled female rock star patterned after Janis Joplin. The movie's theme The Rose gave us a range only she herself could pull it off.

THE ROSE
sung by: Bette Midler

Some say love-
It is a river that drowns a tender reed
Some say love-
It is a razor that leaves your soul to bleed

Some say love-
It is a hunger an endless, aching need
I say love-
It is a flower and you it’s only seed

It’s the heart afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance
It’s the dream afraid of waking
That never takes the chance

It’s the one who won’t be taken
Who cannot seem to be
And the soul afraid of dying
That never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
That you feel that love is only
For the lucky and the strong

Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the sun’s love
In the spring becomes the rose

MOON RIVER (BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S, 1961)

"You know what's wrong with you, Miss Whoever-you-are? You're chicken, you've got no guts. You're afraid to stick out your chin and say, "Okay, life's a fact, people do fall in love, people do belong to each other, because that's the only chance anybody's got for real happiness." - Paul Varjak

One of my favorite themes comes from the movie Breakfast At Tiffany's (1961). The song Moon River was sung by Ms. Audrey Hepburn herself during one of the scenes in the movie wherein she was at the window guitaring the now timeless tune. Great chemistry between the charming Hepburn and the dashing George Peppard adds to the film's charm. It's a class act.

MOON RIVER
sung by: Audrey Hepburn

Moon river, wider than a mile
I’m crossing you in style, some day
On dream maker, you heartbreaker
Wherever you’re goin’, I’m goin’ your way

Two drifters, off to see the world
There’s such a lot of world to see
We’re after the same rainbows end
Waitin’ ‘round the bend
My huckleberry friend
Moon river and me

Moon river, wider than a mile
I’m crossing you in style, some day

Two drifters, off to see the world
There’s such a lot of world to see
We’re after the same rainbows end
Waitin’ ‘round the bend
My huckleberry friend
Moon river and me

Moon river and me

HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE (SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, 1977)

A quintessential Bee Gees song, How Deep Is Your Love is from the movie Saturday Night Fever that soar its way into the charts back in the '70's. It's every bit as successful as the movie itself, even garnering an Oscar nomination for the lead role for John Travolta.

HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE
sung by: Bee Gees

I know your eyes in the morning sun
I feel you touch me in the pouring rain
And the moment that you wander far from me
I wanna feel you in my arms again

Then you come to me on a summer breeze
Keep me warm in your love, Then you softly leave
And it’s me you need to show, How deep is your love

How deep is your love, How deep is your love
I really mean to learn, ‘Cause we’re living in a world of fools
Breaking us down, When they all should let us be
We belong to you and me

I believe in you
You know the door to my very soul
You’re the light in my deepest darkest hour
You’re my savior when I fall
And you may not think I care for you
When you know down inside that I really do
And it’s me you need to show, How deep is your love

How deep is your love, How deep is your love
I really mean to learn, ‘Cause we’re living in a world of fools
Breaking us down, When they all should let us be
We belong to you and me...

EVERGREEN (A STAR IS BORN, 1976)

The great Barbra Streisand's version of a doomed love affair in the world of showbusiness isn't as memorable as its predecessors but the songs make up for the film's shortcomings. Evergreen is signature Barbra.

EVERGREEN
sung by: Barbra Streisand

Love, soft as an easy chair
Love, fresh as the morning air
One love that is shared by two
I have found in you

Like a rose under the April snow
I was always certain love would grow
Love, ageless and evergreen
Seldom seen by two

You and I
Will make each night a first
Everyday a beginning
Spirits rise
And their dance unrehearsed
They warm and excite us
‘Cause we have the brughtest

Love, two lights that shine as one
Morning glory and the midnight sun
Time, we’ve learned to sail above
Time won’t change the meaning of one love
Ageless and ever
Evergreen

EDELWEISS (THE SOUND OF MUSIC, 1965)

"There were times when we would look at each other - oh Mother, I could hardly breathe." - Maria

The most memorable movie musical is from this 1965 Robert Wise's production of The Sound Of Music. Every songs in the movie is well-known, well-played and well-sung. Lead actor Christopher Plummer sung the theme itself. Timeless.

EDELWEISS
sung by: Christopher Plummer

Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Every morning you greet me
Small and white, clean and bright
You look happy to meet me

Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever

Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever

Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever

Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever

A SMILE LIKE YOURS (A SMILE LIKE YOURS, 1997)

This has got to be one of the best contemporary themes in recent years. The great Natalie Cole lends her beautiful voice to the equally entertaining movie of the same name.

A SMILE LIKE YOURS
sung by: Natalie Cole

Hmm, thought I’d seen everything
There was to see in this world
Now I’m not so sure
I’ve really seen anything at all
I thought life could show me no surprises
And then you came and showed me I was wrong

I have seen the bluest skies
Rainbows that would make you cry
I have seen miracles that moved my soul
Days that changed my life
I have seen the brightest stars
Shine like diamonds in the dark
Seen all the wonders of the world
But I’ve never seen a smile
As beautiful as yours

Oh, I thought I’d been everywhere
I’ve climbed a mountain so high
Sailed the sea, crossed the sky
And still I was nowhere at all
Until that day, oh, you came to my senses
And your smile, it made sense out of it all

(I have seen the bluest skies)
Rainbows that would make you cry
I have seen miracles that moved my soul
Days that changed my life
I have seen the brightest stars
Shine like diamonds in the dark
Seen all the wonders of the world
But I’ve never seen a smile
As beautiful as yours

(Smile so beautiful)
So beautiful, comes one time in a lifetime
A smile this beautiful (a smile this beautiful)
I’ve never dreamed I’d ever see, oh

(I have seen the bluest skies)
I have seen it
(Rainbows that would make you cry)
That would make you cry
I’ve seen miracles (miracles) moved my soul
(Days that changed my life)
And days that changed my life

I have seen the brightest stars
Shine like diamonds in the dark
Oh, I’ve seen the wonders of this world
(Wonders of the world)
But I’ve never seen a smile
(Never seen a smile before as beautiful as yours)
Oh, I’ve never seen a smile before
(Never seen a smile before as beautiful)
As beautiful as yours

CRAZY FOR YOU (VISION QUEST, 1985)

Pop Icon Madona in her early days sung this well-played song back in the ’80’s on the radio. Crazy For You is pure Madonna at her best. It may be cheesy but it definitely redefines the ‘80’s.

CRAZY FOR YOU
sung by: Madonna

Swaying room as the music starts
Strangers making the most of the dark
Two by two their bodies become one
I see you through the smoky air
Can't you feel the weight of my stare
You're so close but still a world away
What I'm dying to say is that

I'm crazy for you
Touch me once and you'll know it's true
I've never wanted anyone like this
It's all brand new
You'll feel it in my kiss
I'm crazy for you
Crazy for you

Trying hard to control my heart
I walk over to where you are
Eye to eye we need no words at all
Slowly we begin to move
Every breath I'm deeper into you
Soon we two are standing still in time
If you read my mind you'll see

I'm crazy for you
Touch me once and you'll know it's true
I've never wanted anyone like this
It's all brand new
You'll feel it in my kiss because
I'm crazy for you

Touch me once and you'll know it's true
I've never wanted anyone like this
It's all brand new
You'll feel it in my kiss because
I'm crazy for you
Crazy for you
Crazy for you
It's all brand new
I'm crazy for you
And you know it's true
I'm crazy, crazy for you
It's all brand new
I'm crazy for you
And you know it's true
Ya I'm crazy foryou
Crazy for you baby
I'm crazy for you
I'm crazy for you baby

CRY (A WALK TO REMEMBER, 2002)

"Our love is like the wind... I can’t see it, but I sure can feel it.” – Langdon

A respectable teen weeper based on a bestselling novel by Nicholas Sparks, A Walk To Remember boasts of some themes which the lead star Mandy Moore sung herself. Cry was one of the songs that garnered enough popularity. Yes, guys do cry in sad movies. And the said movie is no exception.

CRY
sung by: Mandy Moore

I'll always remember
It was late afternoon
It lasted forever
And ended too soon

You were all by yourself
Staring up at a dark gray sky
I was changed

In places no one would find
All your feelings so deep inside (deep inside)
It was there that I realized
That forever was in your eyes
The moment I saw you cry
The moment that I saw you cry

It was late in september
And I've seen you before (and you were)
You were always the cold one
But I was never that sure

You were all by yourself
Staring at a dark gray sky
I was changed

In places no one would find
All your feelings so deep inside (deep inside)
It was there that I realized
That forever was in your eyes
The moment I saw you cry

I wanted to hold you
I wanted to make it go away
I wanted to know you
I wanted to make your everything, all right....

I'll always remember
It was late afternoon

In places no one would find
In places no one would find
All your feelings so deep inside (deep inside)
It was there that I realized
That forever was in your eyes
The moment I saw you cry

I wanted to know you
I wanted to know you
I wanted to know you

COLORS OF THE WIND (POCAHONTAS, 1995)

One of the popular Vanessa Williams song is from the 1995 Disney animated-film. Pocahontas is loosely based on the real character, unusual for a Disney animated fare. Still, Disney takes the usual route with engaging songs, and the result is this one.

COLORS OF THE WIND
sung by: Vanessa Williams

You think you own whatever land you land on
The earth is just a dead thing you can claim
But I know every rock and tree and creature
Has a life, has a spirit, has a name

You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You learn things you never knew
You never knew

Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon?
Or ask the grinning bobcat why he grinned
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountains?
Can you paint with all the colours of the wind?
Can you paint with all the colours of the wind?

Come run the hidden pinetrails of the forest
Come taste the sun-sweet berries of the earth
Come roll in all the riches all around you
And for once never wonder what they're worth

The rainstorm and the rivers are my brothers
And the heron and the otter are my friends
And we are all connected to each other
In a circle in a hoop that never ends

How high does the sycamore grow
If you cut it down, then you'll never know

And you'll never hear the wolf cry
To the blue corn moon
For whether we are white or copper-skinned
We need to sing with all the voices of the mountains
Need to paint with all the colours of the wind
You can own the Earth and still all you'll own is earth
Until you can paint with all the colours of the wind

CAN YOU READ MY MIND (SUPERMAN, 1978)

“You- you've got me? Who's got you?” - Lois

Perhaps the most romantic tune in a Superhero-themed movie. Maureen McGovern has the right voice to sing the theme from one of the most iconic movie character in film history. Christopher Reeve soars as well as the theme that goes with it when he catches Lois up in the sky.

CAN YOU READ MY MIND
sung by: Maureen McGovern

Can you read my mind?
Do you know what it is you do to me?
Don't know who you are
Just a friend from another star

Here I am, like a kid at the school
Holding hands with a god or a fool
Will you look at me, quivering
Like a little girl, shivering
You can see right through me

Can you read my mind?
Can you picture the things I'm thinking of?
Wondering why you are
All the wonderful things you are

You can fly, you belong to the sky
You and I could belong to each other
If you need a friend
I'm the one to fly too
If you need to be loved
Here I am, read my mind

Will you look at me, quivering
Like a little girl, shivering
You can see right through me

If you need a friend
I'm the one to fly too
If you need to be loved
Here I am, read my mind

BORN FREE (BORN FREE, 1966)

Undeniably one of the most popular themes from a movie. And perhaps more well-known than the movie itself. Born Free sung by Matt Monro has been recorded by numerous artists the likes of Andy Williams. Timeless and nostalgic at its best.

BORN FREE
sung by: Matt Monro

Born free, as free as the wind blows
As free as the grass grows
Born free to follow your heart

Live free, and beauty surronds you
The world still astounds you
Each time you look at a star

Stay free, where no walls divide you
You're free as a roaring tide
So there's no need to hide

Born free, and life is worth living
But only worth living
'Cause you're born free

Stay free, where no walls divide you
You're free as a roaring tide
So there's no need to hide

ARTHUR'S THEME (BEST THAT YOU CAN DO) (ARTHUR, 1981)

"What I had in mind was spending the night with a stranger who loves me." - Arthur

Grammy winner Christopher Cross lends his voice to come up with this winning theme from the movie Arthur starring Dudley Moore and Liza Minelli. One of the most played songs on the radio.

ARTHUR'S THEME
(BEST THAT YOU CAN DO)
sung by: Christopher Cross

Once in your life you'll find her
Someone who turns your heart around
And next thing you know
You're closin' down the town

Wake up and she's still with you
Even though you left her way across town
You're wonderin' to yourself
Hey what've I found

When you get caught between the moon and New York City
I know it's crazy but it's true
If you get caught between the moon and New York City
The best that you can do (the best that you can do)
The best that you can do is fall in love

Arthur he does what he pleases
All of his life his master's toys
And deep in his heart
He's just he's just a boy
Livin' his life one day at a time
He's showing himself a really good time
He's laughin' about the way
They want him to be

When you get caught between the moon and New York City
I know it's crazy but it's true
If you get caught between the moon and New York City
The best that you can do (the best that you can do)
The best that you can do is fall in love...

AS TIME GOES BY (CASABLANCA, 1942)

“Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she walks into mine.” - Rick

Casablanca (1942), one of the greatest Hollywood films also has a memorable theme. As Time Goes By sung by Dooley Wilson is one not to be missed if one likes to reminisce the power of great music in movies. Nostalgic and simply one of the best themes ever.

AS TIME GOES BY
sung by: Dooley Wilson

You must remember this
A kiss is just a kiss
A sigh is just a sigh
The fundamental things apply
As time goes by

And when two lovers woo
They still say, I love you
On that you can rely
No matter what the future brings
As time goes by

Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate
Woman needs man
And man must have his mate
That no one can deny

It's still the same old story
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by

ANYONE AT ALL (YOU'VE GOT MAIL, 1998)

This second team-up of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan is a reimagining of the classic James Stewart starrer The Shop Around The Corner (1940) and proves that they still have the chemistry they once parlayed in Sleepless in Seattle (1993). The theme Anyone At All sung by the great Carole King is one to be played over and over again over a lazy afternoon.

ANYONE AT ALL
sung by: Carole King

Funny how I feel more myself with you
Than anybody else that I ever knew
I hear it in your voice, see it in your face
You've become the memory I can't erase

You could have been anyone at all
A stranger falling out of the blue
I'm so glad it was you

It wasn't in the plan, not that I could see
Suddenly a miracle came to me
Safe within your arms, I can say what's true
Nothing in the world I would keep from you

You could have been anyone at all
An old friend calling out of the blue
I'm so glad it was you

Words can hurt you, if you let them
People say them and forget them
Words can promise, words can lie
But your words make me feel like I can fly

You could have been anyone at all
A net that catches me when I fall
I'm so glad it was you

You could have been anyone at all
An old friend calling out of the blue
I'm so glad it was you

Anyone at all
Anyone at all
Anyone at all
I'm so glad it was you

ALL THE LOVE IN THE WORLD (AMERICA'S SWEETHEARTS, 2001)

"It's not gonna work 'cause you would probably thinking about her and I would probably always be wondering if you were thinking about her." - Kiki

Julia Roberts, a true America's sweetheart starred in this movie playing 'second banana' to reel celebrity couple Gwen and Eddie played by Catherine Zeta-Jones and John Cusack. But as always stands out throughout the movie. The talented Corrs siblings lend their voices to produce a feel-good tune that is not trite yet still romantic.

ALL THE LOVE IN THE WORLD
sung by: The Corrs

I'm not looking for someone to talk to
I've got my friends, I'm more than okay
I've got more than a girl could wish for
I live my dreams but it's not all they say

Still I believe I'm missing something real
I need someone who really sees me

Don't wanna wake up alone anymore
Still believing you'll walk through my door
All I need is to know it's for sure
Then I'll give all the love in the world

I've often wondered if love's an illusion
Just to get you through the loneliest days
I can't criticize it - I have no hesitation
My imagination just stole me away

Still I believe I'm missing something real
I need someone who really sees me

Don't wanna wake up alone anymore
Still believing you'll walk through my door
All I need is to know it's for sure
Then I'll give all the love in the world

Love's for a lifetime not for a moment
So how could I throw it away
Yeah I'm only human
And nights grow colder
With no one to love me that way
Yeah I need someone who really sees me

And I won't wake up alone anymore
Still believing you'll walk through my door
You'll reach for me and I'll know it's for sure
Then I'll give all the love in the world
(Don't wanna wake up alone...)

AGAIN (POETIC JUSTICE, 1993)

"Alone, all alone. Nobody, but nobody can make it out here alone."
- Justice

The late Michael Jackson’s younger sister Janet is also an artist. Not just a singer but also a part-time actress as well. She appeared and sung the theme from the movie Poetic Justice. Slow and soulful, that is Again.

AGAIN
sung by: Janet Jackson

I heard from a friend today
And she said you were in town
Suddenly the memories came back to me in my mind

How can I be strong
I've asked myself
Time and time I've said
That I'll never fall in love with you again

A wounded heart you gave
My soul you took away
Good intentions you had many
I know you did

I come from a place that hurts
And God knows how I've cried
And I never want to return never fall again

Making love to you
Oh it felt so good and
Oh so right

How can I be strong
I've asked myself
Time and time I've said
That I'll never fall in love with you again

So here we are alone again
Didn't think it'd come to this
And to know it all began
With just a little kiss

I've come too close to happiness
To have it swept away
Don't think I can take the pain
No never fall again
Kinda late in the game
And my heart is in Your hands

Don't you stand there and then
Tell me you love me then leave again
'Cause I'm falling in love with
You again

Hold me
Hold me
Don't ever let me go
Say it just one time
Say you love me
God knows I do
Love you
Again

A LOVE BEFORE TIME (CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, 2000)

"I would rather be a ghost drifting by your side as a condemned soul than enter heaven without you... because of your love, I will never be a lonely spirit ." - Li Mu Bai

This Oscar-winning film is even more memorable with the theme interpreted by Coco Lee. The song's message sums up the emotions of every characters in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

A LOVE BEFORE TIME
sung by: Coco Lee

If the sky opened up for me
And the mountain disappeared
If the seas ran dry, turned to dust
And the sun refused to rise
I would still find my way
By the light I see in your eyes
The world I know fades away
But you stay

As the earth reclaims it due
And the cycle starts anew
We'll stay, always
In the love that we have
Shared before time

If the years take away
Every memory that I have
I would still know the way
That would lead me back to your side
The north star may die
But the light that I see in your eyes
Will burn there always

Lit by the love we have
Shared before time

When the forest turns to jade
And the stories that we've made
Dissolve away

One shining light will still remain
When we shed our earthly skin
And when our real life begins
There'll be no shame
Just the love that we have made before time

AND I LOVE HER (A HARD DAY'S NIGHT, 1964)

The Fab Four, famous for upbeat & melodic songs were also great in covering ballads. And the song And I Love Her is proof of their versatility. The theme was just one of the slow tunes the Beatles recorded. And definitely stood the test of time.

AND I LOVE HER
sung by: The Beatles

I give her all my love
That's all I do
And if you saw my love
You'd love her too
I love her

She gives me ev'rything
And tenderly
The kiss my lover brings
She brings to me
And I love her

A love like ours
Could never die
As long as I
Have you near me

Bright are the stars that shine
Dark is the sky
I know this love of mine
Will never die
And I love her

Bright are the stars that shine
Dark is the sky
I know this love of mine
Will never die
And I love her

OUR LOVE AFFAIR (AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER, 1957)

"Winter must be cold for those with no warm memories."
- Terry McKay

One of the most romantic ballad was from the movie An Affair To Remember. It was sung by Vic Damone and has gained such popularity that it was belt out by a great number of artists including Frank Sinatra. The movie due to such reputation was remade in 1993 with the title Sleepless I Seattle.

OUR LOVE AFFAIR
(AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER THEME)
sung by: Vic Damone

Our love affair is a wondrous thing
That we'll rejoice in remembering
Our love was born with our first embrance
And a page was torn out of time and space

Our love affair may it always be
A flame to burn through eternity
So take my hand with a fervent prayer
That we may live and we may share
A love affair to remember

(INSTRUMENTAL)

Our love affair is a wondrous thing
That we'll rejoice in remembering
Our love was born with our first embrance
And a page was torn out of time and space

Our love affair may it always be
A flame to burn through eternity
So take my hand with a fervent prayer
That we may live and we may share
A love affair to remember

BECAUSE YOU LOVED ME (UP CLOSE & PERSONAL, 1996)

"Every Day we Have, is One More Than We Deserve."

The year 1996 has come up with something beautiful in the form of a song titled Because You Loved Me. Passionately sung by Celine Dion, the theme also serves as one of the inspirational songs during the mid-90's.

BECAUSE YOU LOVED ME
sung by: Celine Dion

For all those times you stood by me
For all the truth that you made me see
For all the joy you brought to my life
For all the wrong that you made right
For every dream you made come true
For all the love I found in you
I'll be forever thankful baby
You're the one who held me up
Never let me fall
You're the one who saw me through through it all

You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'cause you believed
I'm everything I am
Because you loved me

You gave me wings and made me fly
You touched my hand I could touch the sky
I lost my faith, you gave it back to me
You said no star was out of reach
You stood by me and I stood tall
I had your love I had it all
I'm grateful for each day you gave me
Maybe I don't know that much
But I know this much is true
I was blessed because I was loved by you

You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'cause you believed
I'm everything I am
Because you loved me

You were always there for me
The tender wind that carried me
A light in the dark shining your love into my life
You've been my inspiration
Through the lies you were the truth
My world is a better place because of you

You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'cause you believed
I'm everything I am
Because you loved me

DON'T YOU (THE BREAKFAST CLUB, 1985)

"Being bad feels pretty good, huh?" - John Bender

The 'king of watchable teen films' in the '80s (quoted by author Mick Martin) sadly passed away just last August 6 due to heart attack. His films has generated a cult following through the years with movies like Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Breakfast Club. The song Don't You by Simple Minds essays the travails of teen misfits while on a weekend detention. This one is for Mr. John Hughes.

DON'T YOU
sung by: Simple Minds

Hey, hey, hey ,hey
Ohhh...

Won't you come see about me?
I'll be alone, dancing you know it baby

Tell me your troubles and doubts
Giving me everything inside and out and
Love's strange so real in the dark
Think of the tender things that we were working on

Slow change may pull us apart
When the light gets into your heart, baby

Don't You Forget About Me
Don't, Don't, Don't, Don't
Don't You Forget About Me

Will you stand above me?
Look my way, never love me
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
Down, down, down

Will you recognize me?
Call my name or walk on by
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
Down, down, down, down

Hey, hey, hey, hey
Ohhhh.....

Don't you try to pretend
It's my feeling we'll win in the end
I won't harm you or touch your defenses
Vanity and security

Don't you forget about me
I'll be alone, dancing you know it baby
Going to take you apart
I'll put us back together at heart, baby

Don't You Forget About Me
Don't, Don't, Don't, Don't
Don't You Forget About Me

As you walk on by
Will you call my name?
As you walk on by

Will you call my name?
When you walk away
Or will you walk away?

Will you walk on by?
Come on - call my name
Will you call my name?

I say :La la la...
When you walk on by...
And you call my name...

Author's note: Beauty And The Beast was supposed to be posted yesterday but unable to due to connection problem. Thus, I posted the song still as well as the one for today. Enjoy both themes!

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, 1991)

"Once upon a time, in a faraway land, a young prince lived in a shining castle. Although he had everything his heart desired, the prince was spoiled, selfish, and unkind. But then, one winter's night, an old beggar woman came to the castle and offered him a single rose in return for shelter from the bitter cold. Repulsed by her haggard appearance, the prince sneered at the gift and turned the old woman away. But she warned him not to be deceived by appearances, for beauty is found within. And when he dismissed her again, the old woman's ugliness melted away to reveal a beautiful enchantress. The prince tried to apologize, but it was too late, for she had seen that there was no love in his heart. And as punishment, she transformed him into a hideous beast and placed a powerful spell on the castle and all who lived there. Ashamed of his monstrous form, the beast concealed himself inside his castle, with a magic mirror as his only window to the outside world. The rose she had offered was truly an enchanted rose, which would bloom until his 21st year. If he could learn to love another, and earn her love in return by the time the last petal fell, then the spell would be broken. If not, he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time. As the years passed, he fell into despair and lost all hope. For who could ever learn to love a beast?"

My first entry on movie themes based on a full-length animated film was from Walt Disney's 1991 offering, Beauty And The Beast. The tender tale of a lovely girl named Belle and hard-hearted beast were beautifully captured by the song of Peabo Bryson and Celine Dion. Beauty And The Beast also makes history as the first ever animated film to be ever nominated in an Oscar for Best Picture.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
sung by: Peabo Bryson & Celine Dion

Tale as old as time
True as it can be
Barely even friends
Than somebody bends
Unexpectedly

Just a little change
Small to say the least
Both a little scared
Neither one prepared
Beauty and the Beast

Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will arise

Tale as old as time
Tune as old as song
Bittersweet and strange
Finding you can change
Learning you were wrong

Certain as the sun
Rising in the east
Tale as old as time
Song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the beast

Tale as old as time
Song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the beast
